Scallions and Scalawags

10 Nov

A roommate and I were speaking today of formal challenges before duels when he got his vocabulary a bit mixed up. Waving an imaginary sword in the air he declared vehemently, “You scallion!” While we concluded he meant “scalawag” instead of “scallion,” we couldn’t resist extending the challenge:

You scallion! You have insulted my honor! I challenge you to a duel. Come here and I will dice you into small pieces and boil you in soup!

Edit: Another roommate points out that he may have meant “rapscallion” instead of “scalawag.”
